:::: FAQ : CALCIFICATIONS :.
What is the significance of calcifications found on a mammogram?
Calcifications are often found on mammograms. They are tiny deposits of calcium-containing minerals in breast tissue. Most calcifications are benign or non-cancerous. Some calcifications may be associated with very early or non-invasive breast cancer or ductal carcinoma in situ.
If there is a concern that the calcifications found on a screening mammogram could be the type associated with breast cancer, the radiologist will request a diagnostic mammogram with special magnified images.
