:::: FAQ : PAIN :.

What causes breast pain?

Most breast pain is caused by hormonal changes and is not the result of breast cancer. There may also be some dietary factors that contribute to breast pain. Caffeine has been implicated in some cases of persistent breast tenderness. Women who are experiencing breast pain and who consume caffeine regularly should consider discontinuing any caffeine intake for two to three weeks to test a possible connection between the caffeine and their tenderness. People who abruptly stop caffeine consumption may experience headaches for several days.

Is pain a sign of breast cancer?

Although pain is not a specific symptom of breast cancer, it is important to know that some breast cancers can be painful.

When should I seek medical attention if I notice breast pain?

If you have persistent or recurring pain you should contact your physician for a breast examination and advice regarding management and/or additional diagnostic studies, such as mammography or ultrasound. Pain that is focal (limited to one spot) and is persistent should be carefully evaluated as one would evaluate a palpable lump.
