:::: PROCEDURE : IMAGING GUIDED BIOPSY : STEREOTACTIC :.
Stereotactic Breast Biopsy
Although traditional surgical biopsy remains a necessity for some breast abnormalities, Stereotactic Breast Biopsy allows women and their physicians a quicker, yet extremely accurate option.
The procedure, which is performed in the comfort of our imaging center by a radiologist with the assistance of a mammography technologist and a registered nurse, requires only local anesthesia. Most women report little pain and no scarring afterward. The breast is slightly compressed and held in position. Several small samples of tissue are removed from the breast using a needle which is precisely guided to the specific location via X-ray mammography and computer coordinates.
Stereotactic Breast Biopsy eliminates the need for general anesthetic risk, is significantly less costly, and allows the patient to return to her normal routine sooner with little discomfort.
Most importantly, however, particularly from the woman’s viewpoint, is that the examination is accurate, giving women the answer that they need.
